I wanted to create a piece with structure, straight, hard lines whilst tieing in the flow and aesthetic of pieces that create and love so much. Inspiration came after viewing Mona Vale Pools, just north of Sydney. Two man-made pools carved into the rocks, turquoise blue water filling them. At high tide waves crash over the rocks and spill into the pool flooding them, the ocean claiming it once again.Inspired by the idea of this half-full cup that is overfilled daily, I started my piece. A labour of love, I created a foundation of rock and sand and soon waves to engulf the piece. Each layer shaped and worked over meticulously to a view re-imagined in my mind.As I progressed with the piece I found myself more and more lost within the pools I'd created and saw them more as windows or mirrors. I saw myself floating on my back in the pool and looking up at the blue sky, my body trapped halfway between a world of water and air. The water a reflection of the sky, a reflection of me.This piece is for sale. You can find more information about this piece and other pieces I have created on my site www.chrismartin.com.au. Any questions please don't hesitate to ask.
